Autocross.com - Getting Started in Autocross? If you're just learning about autocrossing we recommend looking at the, FAQ of Autocross by John Crooke, which is hosted from the San Francisco Region of the SCCA. There is also an excellent Novice Handbook of autocross information which was compiled by Kate Hughes and friends at the Glen Region SCCA. Want to know what class your car would compete in. Different clubs use different classes and rules but most use the SCCA car classes. The SCCA also has a link that shows the updates to their rules. You can also find some of the new rules and class information at Jerry Mouton site. There are some new classes and they are called Street Touring & Street Modified so be sure to check that site also. There are a few books that cover the sport of autocrossing. Here is a short review of some of the books. If you have questions about setting up your car for autocrossing you might try our autocross setup section. One of the best places for you to learn how to adjust your car is featured from the West Texas Region SCCA. A lot of new racing terms and definitions like oversteer and understeer can be explained here. Yes, you have to work during an autocross. Look at the Course Worker requirements & the Down - Out Pylon Rule.

About Motorkhanas - Definition. Motorkhanas are motor sport events designed to test the acceleration, braking and handling of cars and the skill and judgement of drivers. Most importantly, motorkhanas provide fun and enjoyment whilst practising and learning car control. Oversteer and understeer will be found in abundance, but at safe speeds under controlled conditions. The word Motorkhana seems unique to Australia and New Zealand, but similar events are known as Autotest in the U.K., Autocross or Solo in the U.S., and may be known as Autokhana or Gymkhana elsewhere.

After a couple of organizational meetings they voted on the procedures for admission and membership dues and the Porsche Club of America was incorporated.

Tennessee Valley Region - Autocrossing (a.k.a. Slalom, Solo II, Gymkana, Parking lot racing,...) is a competition between cars of similar potential where each driver takes his/her car out onto a course marked by rubber pylons and tries to negotiate the prescribed path in as little time as possible. Only one competitor is on course at a time and the class winner is determined by the fastest time. Penalty seconds are added to the driver's time for each pylon hit during the run. TAC hosts at least seven events per season and TVR host an additional 3 or more with trophies awarded at each event. Membership is not required to participate in either club's events. However, TAC also sponsors a season-long championship series for members only. So if you want a big trophy at the end of the year or if you just want to support the club and help keep the program alive, join us.

Blue Ridge Region SCCA... - SOLO II (or auto crossing), is usually a Sunday event open to members and non-members, pitting drivers and their cars against a temporary course normally set up in a large parking lot. These events are a timed competition, one car on course at a time. Multiple runs are made and eventual class winners are determined from the best laps. There are many classes in which to participate, with many electing to use their "daily ride". There is a pre-event safety inspection performed on each vehicle. The only "special" equipment required of the participants is an approved helmet (loaner helmets are normally available at the events). Drivers are required to "work" during a portion of their time when they are not on course. The "work" involves any of the many officiating tasks required to execute the event (flagging, tech inspection, timing, staging, etc.). SOLO is the cornerstone of the SCCA. Many road racers (both amateur and professional) and race officials, began their racing careers/hobbies in SOLO.

An Autocross is a one car at a time competition on a miniature road course marked by rubber cones in a large parking lot. The shortest time through the course wins. There are classes for all cars and some trucks. A Rallye is a challenging course following event held on public roads, at safe and legal speeds. Each vehicle carries a driver/navigator team.  CENTRAL KENTUCKY REGION - Why Autocross? Because it's FUN! Autocrossing is one of the few motor sports that an entrant can spend $20-30 for a full day on the weekend and get to drive their very own car and test it's (and the driver's) limits. The cost really is very low with respect to auto racing activities. The $20-30 fee helps pay parking lot rental fees the club endures to host an event, the timing and scoring equipment, display, trailer, cones, national SCCA audit fees and many other items it takes to run an event.

SCCA MidSouth Region - Our local club secures a location, usually a large parking lot or a section of an airport, to hold Solo2 events. Traffic cones, or pylons, are used to set out a course and drivers are timed to the 1/1000th of a second. For every pylon that is hit, a 2-second penalty is added to that driver’s official time for that particular run. The lowest official time in a class is awarded 1st place. The number of awards in a class is based on the number of entrants in that class. Cars in different classes can be compaired by using an index.

San Francisco Region - SFR Autocross Series We run two separate series of events each year, the Championship Series and the Slush Series. These are separately scored and trophies are awarded for each. The same Supplemental Regulations apply. The Championship Series is generally from January to September, ending before the SCCA Nationals. The Slush Series is after Nationals up till the next year's Championship Series. Slush tends to be a bit more laid back, but events are run the same. "Events" and "Rounds" Our Events Calendar lists autocrosses as "SFR Event" or "SFR Round 4". These mean the same, except that there is an event information web page available for those Events classified as Rounds. The Run Groups are pretty sure, and the site is pretty sure, but anything can change, right up through complete cancellation at the last minute. Always check the website or hotline the night before. General Event Information Events are open to SCCA members only. Membership card must be presented to run. Memberships may be purchased on site, but you will not be allowed to run until your card arrives from SCCA. Join early. See the button on the top of this screen. A special "Friends and Family" entry is available for members to sponsor non-member entrants occasionally. The event will be conducted according to SCCA Solo II rules, as amended by SFR Supplemental regulations Karts in SFR events are governed by the SFR Kart Rules Cars must undergo technical inspection for safety and car identification issues at every event. Experienced autocrossers may be eligible for the SCCA annual tech program, which makes them personally responsible for performing their own tech inspection at every event. SFR Handicapping indexes, which are based on the most recently published RTP/PAX indexes, will be used to generate an indexed order of finish on the website.. Entry Fee: $30; By entering you agree to work your assigned work group; SCCA membership card and valid drivers' license are required and must be presented at registration; Helmet is required: Snell type M or SA, '90 or later ONLY; Loaners are available on a limited basis. First run group is run on an "inverted grid": First car to arrive on grid is put into last position; Last car to arrive will run first; Cars in the first run group will be tech'ed on grid. WHY? Because the first car out each day runs on a slippery, dirty track, and smart drivers want others to clean it off for them. Grid Early.
